PicLens
Another new development in the world of Web 2.0
This add-on for Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari (ie it works under Windows and OSX) is a way of presenting images and videos in a new way that makes searching through a stack of images and videos very quick and easy.
It is using a similar concept to Cover-Flow in iTunes (and on the latest iPods) to present the images / video thumbnails that you can then zoom in on to get the higher resolutions.
Hard to explain in words – so watch the video and see just how powerful the web is becoming!
As an added bonus, you can also use PicLens to view directories of your own images.

Dear Luna (and team),
Thank you for your comment – I am pleased you liked the video. Word of mouth (via blogs) is the way a lot of info is going to get out there these days.
Sorry about not including the links – it was remiss of me, but I have corrected that.
This blog is very new, I have another (woodworking) that has been going quite a while now (and rather successfully) so decided I needed a depository for my IT stuff – given that it is what I actually do at Monash University. The reason I mention it, is there is another blog that is not seen on Google which is a near mirror of IT Savvy, called Arts IT Savvy, which is a blog I’m working on for the Faculty of Arts at Monash University, which is the main reason these exist at all – I am the IT Trainer for the Faculty, and am experimenting with these blogs as a new delivery system. Of course, the post about PicLens is also on there, given that is my main audience. (And yes, I have amended it with the links you kindly provided!)
I use images a great deal (am also a bit of a photographer), and I can only encourage you to continue to develop what is a very cool concept that you have come up with here – I love it!
I would love to see some (or all!) of the following if they ever come to fruition:
A WordPress.com theme based around the PicLens to rival the Monotone theme for photo bloggers
PicLens being built into Adobe Lightroom
PicLens being a stand alone program that can be run directly from the computer for searching image and video directories – having it built into the OSX (and Windows I guess) operating systems would be awesome!
At the moment it appears that you can use PicLens to search directories on the computer of images, but not videos. There is no good program out there at this stage for creating searchable directories of videos, and this is something that PicLens would be brilliant for.
Thank you for the development so far of an amazing product – I can’t wait to see where you are able to take it!
Now Stuart, that was the best thing since finding your ‘Shed’ site.
I often look for images etc and this will truly be a great feature to have……
Thanks again
Glenn
